The Ting Tings @ Palais Royal, Paris April 25 2012 6:00 pm

The Ting Tings @ Palais Royal, Paris April 25 2012 6:00 pm
for Rock Corps
Another free show in Paris ,on the first come first serve basis, this time just sandwiched between the Conseil d'Etat & the Louvre Museum on Place du Palais Royal. 1500 capacity.
it's not sold out as it's oudoor and the weathear has been awful all day with lots of wind and showers. Luckily it's dry when The Ting Tings are getting on the tiny stage.
This gig is part of the Rock Corps thing, when you volunteer for some work you get a free ticket for a rock concert.
We've seen them a few times recently @ Cigale in March, @ L'Album de la Semaine in January and @ Caroussel du Louvre last december where they premiered the new album.

I guess they're playing the same setlist as they ended the set with the same routine: an electro song then their two hits "Shut up & le me go" & "That's not my name" but with had something extra as there were 3 other stages facing the main stage with a Gospel Choir of black female girls all dressed up with XVIII century clothes and wigs on the first one, some dancers on the second one (see picture below) and a extra guitar player dressed up as an astronaut on the 3rd stage.
All that added an extra flavour to the electro-bluesy pop-rock of the Ting Tings.
Cool 30 min set.

Jack White @ Cigale, Paris April 22 2012

Updated April 24 with complete & corrected setlist (thanks to Stéphane D)

Jack White
@ Cigale, Paris April 22 2012
First proper European show on this Tour to promote his first solo album "Blunderbuss", the album is out tomorrow but you could buy the vinyl & cd at the show tonight.
We could get ours on friday just before going to see Jack White @ L'Album de la Semaine TV show for Canal+performing a 45 min showcase, in front of a selected audience of less than 200 people, with both bands (male and female for two sets of 25 & 20 min).

Oups... sorry for the lousy Pics ;-) waiting for the officials !

Tonight we're only getting the Male band, Jack decided which one he was to play with, minutes before getting on stage, which means that the girls were @ Cigale and watching the show from the wings of the stage.
I guess he made a whole lotta money with The White Stripes as it might cost a fortune to pay expenses (travel & hotel + fees) for 11 musicians when you're only using 5 or 6 every night.

We knew what to expect, so there wasn't any surprise but Jack & the band were smoking as much as they did @ Canal+.
White & blue light for the whole show and the security was tight, probably the first show in a long time where I didn't see any cell phones or cameras up in the air to catch the moment, It's enjoyable but here @ Rockerparis, we don't like to be told what to do.
It's a ROCK show and we don't obey the rules, 'cause we're fuckin' ROCKERS.

Of course he played many songs for the new album and a couple of oldies, I have to say that our favorite is once again "Buffalo" from The Dead Weather. This song is a killer even though the album was very disappointing.
A "good" surprise he ended the set with The White Stripes' "Seven nation army", the show was so good that he really didn't need to play that song and we would have prefer another one from his back catalogue.
Great 69 min set, a bit short don't you think Jack ?

Jack White @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris April 20 2012

setlist

GREAT show ! Looking forward to see him again on sunday @ Cigale

First show of Jack White in France before the one on sunday at La Cigale, it's like having him playing in your living room as the audience is sitting on stalls just in front of the stage with only 200 people.
First we have the Boys Band called "Los Buzzardos" for 6 songs set (25 min):
  1. Sixteen Saltines
  2. Missing Pieces
  3. Trash Tongue Talker
  4. We’re Gonna Be Friends
  5. Weep Themselves To Sleep
  6. Cut Like A Buffalo
Quintet with bass , drums, piano, lap steel & violin/ mandoline ; as usual with Jack the band is dressed up so are the roadies.
The band is neat, finally Jack White is writing proper songs, I mean compare to the one he wrote with The Dead Weather.
I Have not listen to the record yet but the songs sounds really great.
Glad that he played some White Stripes' and dead Weather's , fantastic version of "Buffalo".
There is a 10 min intermission so that they can change the drum kit and the back drop.

Then we have the Girls Band called the "Peacocks", all the girls are really good looking all dressed in white & blue. It's a sextet with a backing vocalist.
They have a great drummer that's kicking ass and the girl on the lap steel is a very sexy blonde but I think I have a crush for the black girl on backing vocals.
6 songs most of them no more than 3 min max so it's a short 20 min set.
  1. Freedom At 21
  2. Hypocritical Kiss
  3. Love Interruption
  4. Top Yourself
  5. My Doorbell
  6. Take Me With You When You Go
Jack is on top form and the guitar playing is neat, cool bluesy-rock-soul songs.

We were lucky to get both bands tonight but I don't know if it's like this for every gig.
We shall see on sunday as he's playing @ La Cigale

Great performances just hope he will play more than 45 min

Crocodiles @ Agnes B store, Paris April 19 2012 & Caandides @ Colette

Crocodiles @ Agnes B store, Paris April 19 2012 6:30 pm
Tight schedule, we're getting into the store just as Crocodiles is starting playing.
We are the girls from the band ? It's an acoustic set and there are just the guys.
Tonight it's packed, I've never seen so many people in the store for a showcase.
They do sound much more "English" when it's acoustic , I remember them from playing a Black session it was much more 60's Psyche.
They have some very good tunes, the attitude, very cool 5-6 songs set.
The singer from Poni Hoax is also playing a few acoustic tunes on another stage.
A DJ was getting ready on the main stage when we left the premises.
When we went to the Kim Fowley signing session we were given an Agnes B-Rough Trade bag with cds , this time its a white single 45 from Nicolas Ker & Jonathan Fitoussi.

Caandides @ Colette Music Box, Paris April 19 2012 5:30pm

First in this late afternoon is another Colette Music Box with 2 bands & a DJ.
This time we're feeded with fresh vegetables and some Spanish Ham, Musicwise as the show started very late because of technical problems we could only hear the first band Caandides for some pop-electro -rock, not our drug of choice, we left before Tristesse Contemporaine took the stage as we didn't wanna miss Crocodiles @ Agnes B.

Levon Helm 1940-2012 RIP

LEVON HELM (from The Band) 1940-2012 RIP
Levon Helm passed peacefully this afternoon. He was surrounded by family, friends and band mates and will be remembered by all he touched as a brilliant musician and a beautiful soul.

Mariee Sioux @ Gibert Joseph, Paris April 06 2012, 6:00pm

Mariee Sioux @ Gibert Joseph, Paris April 06 2012, 6:00pm

Another free show in Paris, this time on Bd St Michel with folk lady Mariee Sioux promoting her new album.
Small gathering of fans, she's playing acoustic guitar without any amplification, hard to hear anything as she has a tiny voice and the guitar playing was also very soft.
4 songs set maybe the conditions were not top to appreciate her quiet folk.

She's playing @ Café de la Danse on Thursday (April 19) with Matt Elliott
She'll play another showcase @ Fargo on friday (April 20) at 6:00pm
There should be another one on sunday at a secret location

Grand Pre-Opening @ Palais de Tokyo, Paris April 12-13 2012

Grand Pre-Opening @ Palais de Tokyo, Paris April 12-13 2012
A "Circuit 24" for artist & Music lovers

Pre-opening of the Palais de Tokyo after being closed for refurbishment, it has now triple its initial size.
Opened 30 hours non-stop.

The only good thing we saw was that huge Grand Prix racing track for kids made out of thousands of old vinyls and you could actually drive the car, with a camera, in front of a screen.
That was cool
un peu d'humour dans un monde de brutes (center)

The rest was mostly crap and certainly not up to the level of the Palais de Tokyo.
  • Small "figurines" made out of small plastic objects and trash : OK
  • Some small drawings and texts written on notebooks & porn mags (pic below), the kind of things you do in class when the Maths lesson is boring you to death: crap
  • there was a "dismembered" car: The metalwork with all the seats, wheels, lights... put around it (not pictured here), I'm pretty sure that workers repairing cars in a garage didn't know they were doing art: complete crap
  • A huddle of wood : we thought it was the place where workers put all the trash away in fact it was ART: shit
I mean who the fuck do they think we are
Can they call "ART" any shit
It looks like the answer is "YES @ Palais de Tokyo

ART SWINDLE
So WHAT ?
Someone very dubious about all that shit !!!
